Where identified, Just in Case bags will be prescribed by the patients GP and collected from MKUCS by the patient’s nurses. The standard issue white pharmacy bag will be clearly marked with an identifying label, and will be accompanied by an information leaflet for the patient/carer which explains what the drugs are for, why they are in place and how they should be looked after, and disposed of.
The contents of the pack will be:
• Morphine 10mg x 5 ampoules
• Haloperidol 5mg x 5 ampoules
• Midazolam 10mg x 10 ampoules
• Glycopyrronium bromide 200mcg x 10 ampoules
• Water for injection 10ml x 10 ampoules
The bags will have to be made up on a named patient basis, but all of the contents would be as standard. The prescription will be written on a standard FP10 by the patients GP, a template is available on SystmOne. Costs would be contained within the prescribing budget.
Please see documents below for prescribing and authorising these palliative care drugs.
