In August/September 2012, Milton Keynes CCG agreed with MKHFT a direct access, high specification and primary care owned endoscopy service for adults aged 18 years and over who are registered with a Milton Keynes GP.

The service provides GP’s direct access referrals regarding diagnostic/ treatment and surveillance for adult patients. 

This pilot scheme is available on Choose and Book and will be expected to meet both the 6-week diagnostic pathway and be value for money

This development is in response to a variety of local and national drivers but particularly in relation to:

• The 6 Week Diagnostic and 18 week referral to treatment pathway
• The cancer strategy
• The Bowel Cancer Screening Programme
• The Patient Choice agenda
• ‘Care Closer to home’ document (DOH)
