The plans for this area are based on the principles of delivering quality services that provide demonstrable value for money.
The focus will be on procuring services against outcome measures; benchmarking services with best practice in comparable areas; care pathways should reflect the intent to avoid admission to hospital and to provide support and advice to allow children to be cared for in the community, or close to home; advocating care that reduces interventions where appropriate, such as normalising birth and reducing unnecessary paediatric admissions; and there will be a focus on prevention and providing universal, accessible services with targeted care appropriate to the needs of the individual.
